The Citizens for a Civic Auditorium now called “The Lyric” is a group of civic-minded individuals who are dedicated to making the dream of a civic auditorium come true. Their vision is a venue where local and touring artists can perform as well as a meeting venue that links the needs of civic and educational organizations. The long term plan includes building a state-of-the art venue which would accommodate the performing arts community as well as conferences, banquets, weddings, parties, meetings, exhibitions and private events.
In September of 2015 the Lyric purchased the Iris Theater, a historic building in the Old Yellowstone District of downtown Casper, Wyoming. The lobby of the Iris Theater was remodeled with the funds from a HUD grant with new paint, carpet, offices, and a catering kitchen. The eight existing movie theaters remain intact with seats, lights, screens and two of the eight theaters have audio and visual equipment.
Starting in January of 2016, the remodeled lobby, large and small existing theaters, and catering kitchen can be rented for community and private events. There are also climate controlled storage units in the basement of the building that can be rented on a monthly basis. The Lyric plans to use the rental income to cover the operating costs while working on developing the detailed design work for the new state of the art building and launching a capital fundraising campaign.
